Angry Side sill spoiler/ skirt rubber warped (by anti-rust spray)

Title says it all, really. I got my vehicle Rust Checked this summer. (Also had it done a week or two after I purchased my vehicle on 2016, as instructed by my dad. He says it's best to do it when you get the car and then in the summer so the rust proofing can really seep into the metal.) Here's a couple pictures of what it looks like: http://imgur.com/a/armPC

In any case, the first time I had it done was in November. The rubber was not warped at this time. When I had it done last month is when I started to notice the warping. I brought it to Nissan and they told me it was not covered under warranty essentially because "I got it rust proofed and it wasn't their product that I used".

    My questions are:

    1) Did it warp because of a mix of the oil + heat?
    2) Where could I potentially get something like this fixed other than at the dealer?
    3) Any rubber/seal products out there like this that I can substitute so I don't have to deal with this dealership anymore? Or that won't warp with Rust Check?

Any help would be much obliged. Thanks.

I assume the other side did it too?

Some chemicals are known to cause plastic/rubber to swell. Sure seems like it could have been the anti-rust spray.

It's on the other side, however not as badly. I did ask around and it is likely that the Rust Check did cause it. But then that means they must be using pretty cheap rubber on this for it to react that way.

Krown will do that. The upper strut bar sticking out in the engine bay has a rubber thing on it that swelled up on mine. I'll take a picture when I have the chance.

Makes you wonder about the other rubber Parts underneath the car like sway bar bushings, engine mounts, control arm bushings, Muffler hangers and rear axel bushings

What you got is to be a very good indication you kept very good care of your car.

Where did you go to get your rest proofing?

I know of someone who took their car to Krown and demanded "extra" spray for protection. The bumpers warped due to the excess, I believe that Krown made good on the repairs. I'd talk to people responsible for the problem about it...

Are you considering a DIY replacement? I don't think the sill/skirt is hard to remove.

At least you know you won't have any corroded fasteners to deal with.

I thought of this thread today when I saw an Infiniti G35 with obvious rust protection (telltale seepage / dust collection around the bottoms of the doors).

The bottoms of the plastic side sills themselves were all warped.

I've run into the same problems before with rustproofing..
Better to replace seals though than attempt to fix rust... YAY D.I.Y.!
Ive used things similar to this before with alright success
