    another Nissan in the family

My brother actually just picked up a 2005 Nissan X-Trail (which was not sold in the U.S; predecessor of the Rogue). He lives on an unserviced road and needs the ground clearance and AWD to get in & out in the winter.

Not quite a Micra, but surprisingly fuel efficient (he got the manual transmission). He's seeing 6.3 L/100 km / 37 mpg US on the highway (at the 100 km speed limit)

EDIT: well that turned out to be quite wrong! Uncalibrated ScanGauge was waaaaay off. (11.2 actual.)

I've driven a handful of Nissans over the years. I've never owned one though. I did almost buy an early 2000s Sentra SER a while back...

    another Nissan story

When the Nissan 300 was introduced, I spent a silly amount of money (for a student) at the Nissan School of Performance Driving. I did a bunch of "advanced driving" sessions on the skid pad (skid control, collision avoidance manoeuvers, etc.), and performance driving on the race track at Shannonville, Ontario.

We drove everything -- from 300's, to 240's, to NX's, to Sentras, to Stanzas. I learned a heck of a lot, and it was loads of fun.

Not me in the pic, but here's one of the school's cars:

That's actually one of the Nissan instructors - from his web page.

I've considered doing that multiple times... sounds like loads of fun. But, what always stops me is the crazy cost of it for a day or two of instruction.

First one was a 1987 Sentra 2 door 5 spd, 1.6 69 hp IIRC $6700 brand new, dealer added cloth insert on the seats, no other extras. AC was dealer installed and we were going to do that later, a semi bumped her and took it out.

1982 Datsun King Cab 4x4 5 spd, factory light bar bright red, used, owned it 3-4 years. 5 spd went out replaced with 4 speed and mpg went up.

1990 Nissan Sentra XE 5 sp, 96 hp, 12 valve 1.6l, cloth seats and AC, no radio or antenna, sold at almost 200,000 miles, just brakes, plugs & wires.

Couple of short termers, 87.5 hardbody 4x4 sold to brother & nephews, 2wd hardbody bought from nephew $150. Sold a few months later for $100 to a friend as alternator died during test drive, bought Altima from his wife after they divorced.

2001 Altima GLE? 2.4 auto, leather power everything, sun roof, has some quirks but after 2 years it's been reliable, I think it could break 30 mph hwy, but with 16 yo daughters 4 mile trip to HS gets low 20's.

Coming soon 2009 Sentra S FE+ CVT for other daughter to finish college with.

Is that the actual car? How many KM on it when you sold?

And being from BC, it probably didn't have much rust either. (Envious.)

Jeez, for a few hundred more, you could get a K10 Micra...if I lived in BC, I'd buy this in a minute:

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

Not the actual car. Just the same model and color. My car had some rust but for how old it was and how many winters it took under snow with only a cover to protect it is amazing.

I didn't sell it this year. I think I sold it about 6 years ago. It did have some rust but I used an electric wire brush on it and then painted over it. Minor rust really. I think it had 130,000km on it but at that point it was just sitting, uninsured in the backyard so I decided I'd rather have the money. The guy who bought it must have been pretty happy because he was getting rid of an 80's gas guzzling truck and was only using the Datsun for driving to work and back on the highway. His first tank must have seemed to last him for decades.

I remember we tried going up a hill in it with me, my brother and two other football players. We had 900lbs at least in it. The car was doing 30km/h. Haha. People were staring at us as they drove by. We later found out the car had a max weight capacity of something like 650lbs!

Oh! And the AM radio was ridiculous. We have this "highway from hell"(TV show based on this Coquihala highway) and most vehicles would get a radio station to a certain point and lose it where as my Datsun got it to the mid way point of the highway at the peak of the mountain! Many Km's further than any other vehicle, especially the newer ones. It was the best receiver in the history of radio receivers.

Hmm. Pretty far away from me and the listing is dead.

Interesting what you can find with the internet.
