I had a 1997 Mazda protege. It was loaded with all the goodies and dealer maintained. Bought it in 2011 with 128k on it for 1000 bucks off the original owner and he had all the records. Drove it until the 2015 when it was close to 200k. It was my beater car when I was a student. Did regular matainence on it and I for the 4 years I owned it I think it was like 2300 in repairs for various stuff. Bal joint, tie rods, brakes once, stabilizer links, alternator, oil, flushes etc. so not bad in my opinion for a 90s car. Got rid of it because it the timing belt went, needed a themastat, water pump, and valve cover gasket. The gasket I was going to do my self but the rest was just not worth it.

And my god was it rusty. When I had it up on jack stands the last days I had it the stands sank into the frame. Still got 200 from the scrapper and sold a bunch of parts I stripped. I think I still even have the alternator which was practically new. Should probably sell that this summer.

Bought the 2015 micra S used (private sale) with low km for 8000 bucks summer of 2015. Love it.

My Micra 2016 replaced a Versa 2010. I do not regret it, it cost a lot less in gas and so far, no dash rattle from hell so I'm happy!

^ For some reason I keep looking at those on Kijiji - the 4-banger manuals. I don't know why.

In a way they remind me of the base Micra: unabashed simplicity.

2000 Ford Focus ZX3. Terrible car. Ignition switch ceased with the key stuck in it (drilled it out myself and replaced it), starter failed at 97,000KM, Coolant flange cracked at 98,000KM, Valve cover blew off due to crank vent icing, surging when the gas tank was below half full (figured it out - EGR faulty) the gutless wonder was gone a few years until we got a second car, a 2015 Mira SV auto. Not buying Ford every again. Quality is Job 666.

Trade in a 2008 City Golf. Great car for drivability but was a gas guzzler and reliability was poor. Was glad to be done with it. Happy with the Micra but looking to move up to something like the Qashqai.
