Let me try this post again....

Like many people, I am not a fan of the chrome emblem on the steering wheel. And since spray painting inside my car isnt a viable option...

Heres how to remove your steering wheel emblem.... Also shows you how to remove your air bag.

For starter id recommend disconnecting the battery to prevent an accidental air bag deployment.

First step, locate the two holes, one on either side of steering wheel. Then insert a flat head screw driver. You will be pressing on a clip to release the cover. Name: 20170513_134929.jpg

Here on the right side you can see my screwdriver against the clip I am pushing on. Repeat on the opposite side. Gently pull on the cover at the same time. Be careful when removing the cover as there is two wires attached. Gently pull them off.

The next step is a little bit tricky. You need to gently pry the tabs holding the two pieces together. Do not break them... They keep the cover in place when the airbag goes off instead of flying into your face.

I Mickey Moused the situation... Used some tooth picks to help me out.
Provably not the proper way to do it... But it worked for me. Name: 20170513_142430_HDR.jpg

Here you see the main pieces apart.

Now the main event, you'll need to use pliers to remove the rubber keeper.Name: 20170513_143333.jpg

I tried a different approach to getting rid of the chrome. I got a Dollarama artists tiny paint brush and a kit of acrylic paints. I painted over the chrome. The first try I used it straight out of the tube but that turned out to be too chunky. Next day, second coat but thinned with a drop or two of water. Color match was good and I am very pleased with the result. It looks like it came from the factory with a black plastic badge.

You should post a photo of it. I am god awful with a brush... Id get it all over the steering wheel. I am using some left over plastidip. If I am not happy with the result. I might vinyl wrap the emblem with carbon fiber vinyl. Thinking about it.... Im provably gona end up doing the vinyl wrap eventually.

That looks great Chef Groleau. No more sunlight reflected in your face. It's a lot more of a procedure than I thought to remove it but your plastidip job looks great in the picture.

Like an idiot. I forgot to put the keeper back on before reassembling everything.. Second time around I had everything taken apart in less then 10 min.

Your job looks better than my acrylic paint job because your plastidip is thinner. When I used the paint right out of the tube it was too thick and partially filled up the lettering. However it does the job I wanted so I am pleased with it. I would send a photo but I don't have the technology .

Re painting small things like this badge... a trick I learned from a sign painter is to use one hand to support the one holding the paint brush. It reduces any shaking and makes for a more accurate brush stroke. Also you need to use a small artists brush.
