Dust and mud and stuff.... (Better sound insulation?)

Hello, I purchased a Micra SR 2016 in June and I am quite happy with it although there are are few things that irritate me a little bit. One of the mis that for some reason as soon as I run into dust or mud or little rocks I hear all the stuff just under me and it’s annoying. Did you people experience this? Never had this with a car before. The only difference this car has with all the previous others is that it doesn’t have mud flaps. Is it what would fix this problem? If so, where do I get them? I’m in Quebec so the roads are rarely very clean and winter lasts 5 months per year.

    Thank you

As the micra is an economy car, the sound insulation is minimal. A couple ways to combat the sound is to A: Have your inner fenders undercoated and B: Use a product like Dynamat or Hushmat on the inside of your car to reduce road noise and dampen vibrations.

I've had other economy cars before. The Versa 2012 didn't have such a problem and it costed me less than the Micra. I can't believe no one else mentionned this on this forum. The noise is quite insane. No isolation at all on a 20K + car...

How much would it cost for solution A?

Well, regardless of whether or not you spent 10k or 20k + on the Micra, there is no upgrade on sound deadening. I'm not sure how much undercoating costs, but I spent roughly 160$ on sound deadening materials (Hushmat from Lordco) for inside the doors, trunk, and wheel wells and it's basically like a mini cadillac, now.

Nissan has stated specifically that the k14 will have improved sound insulation, further reinforcing that the k13's sound insulation quality is nonexistant.

Don't forget, the lack of heavy sound insulation material is also what allows the car to only weight ~2,300 pounds in a time when most cars weight 3 to 4,000. I remember being a member of other enthusiast forums people would actually scrape off all the deadening in attempt to lower that weight-to-power ratio

Turn up the volume until you can't hear the noise anymore.

In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

The good old Ford fix. Put bigger speakers in to block out the weird noises
