Hello! Small car enthusiast in the 1000 Islands (Ontario)
Hello!
I'm a big fan of small cars that get great fuel economy.
I've owned a bunch of fuel-sippers (and one or two gas hogs), and one electron-sipper...
1998 Pontiac Firefly (Suzuki-engineered, Canadian market Geo/Chevrolet Metro) 1.0L, 5-speed;
2000 Honda Insight, hybrid 1.0L, 5-speed;
1991 Geo Metro electric - I yanked out the 1.0L engine and converted this one to battery-electric drive
The Nissan entry in my automotive background was a sweet, low-miles first generation Sentra wagon (which had both "Nissan" and "Datsun" badges on the back!), like this:
It was also a fuel economy champ, with a 67 hp 1.5L 4-cyl engine, 5-speed manual transmission, and light weight (~1875 lbs / 850 kg). When it was new, the Sentra had the highest fuel economy rating given out by the U.S. EPA that year: 43 MPG (US) city (5.5 L/100 km), 58 highway (4.1), 48 combined (4.9).
So you can see why Nissan caught my attention with the announcement of the returning Micra.
Yet despite having a garage littered with efficient cars, I actually ride my bicycle around town most of the time.
Oh, and I'm also a co-founder/administrator at EcoModder.com, a community focused on improving fuel economy through vehicle modifications & driving techniques.
