    5.4 in the SR automatic

I calculated 5.4 L/100 km in 940 km of driving the SR automatic last week.

The on board display was ~4.5% optimistic. Not bad.

Full details of my driving environment & techniques, etc. are in my week-long Micra test drive notes thread.

Nice going! Average of your 7 "known" tanks puts you at...

    53.0 mpg (Imp) = 5.3 L/100 km = 44 mpg (US) = 18.8 km/L

You're the top of the class right now. (Need a thumbs up emoticon... )

I'm pretty sure a 5-speed manual would be in the high 4.x range in my mostly secondary highway usage. (Probably more fuel economy friendly environment than yours.)

Yep, the Micra is doing quite well, just tanked another @ 54.77 mpg. I'm not using any fancy tricks either, just smooth driving at the speed limit, which has become habit over the years for daily driving.

Nothing wrong with the speed limit or flow of traffic speed. Let the faster people go ahead and speed. It will keep the cops ahead busy.

On the 401 during the week, it's either autobahn speeds or 40km/h, nothing in between, and just try to do the speed limit and the tractor trailers will run you down. It's pretty insane.

Tractor trailers are speed limited to 105 km/h province-wide (a move endorsed by the trucking companies themselves). The Torontobahn has an exemption?

Regardless, even when you're moving at extra-legal speeds in dense traffic, fuel economy can be surprislingly decent owing to the aerodynamic benefit of lots of vehicles travelling together. Not quite "drafting", technically (because you don't have to tailgate to benefit from it). Some call it a "corridor effect". It's the reason one Toronto area technical school proposed installing wind turbines next to the highway - to harvest energy from the constant wind current created by traffic!

No, but the speed limit is 100 km/h, but those truckers are constantly driving at their limited maximum. Also, smaller trucks (ie; cube vans) are exempt. I've seen those tractor trailers riding the bumper of cars that were driving at around 104 km/h. I prefer keeping my speed at least 10km/h faster than them when they're around so I don't have to spend too much time beside them.
