2015 micra S cargo cover template- DIY

I made a cover for the cargo area. I Used 1/4" fiberboard? from home depot. it was about 7 dollars. it didnt work out too bad so i thought i would share the template. There is a reverse curve about 6" from the edge. if you realize its not one big compound curve it will probably work better. There is enough room to put trim around the outside on the back. I havent finished yet, but i believe the template is functional if you cant be bothered or dont know how to make the template. Its not perfect,, but i was pretty happy how its turned out so far. i will ry and answer any questions but i tried to write everything you need on the template.

i cant help but feel that cargo cover is very very....undiscrete.

the entire point of the cover is to hide stuff from thiefs. but with a cover that conspicuous, wouldnt thieves feel tempted theres some interesting valuables hidden? in contrast, our stock cover, while nominally very flimsy and cheap, is very incognito.

so here is the hardboard i used from home depot.

I had been thinking what to cover it with, automotive carpet sounded expensive and even buying fabric also. MrsMiicra2015 suggested some lawn fabric we had and it looks great! its very inexpensive and the texture is good.

The picture doesnt really do it justice.

I just stapled the fabric underneath and it worked out not too bad...total cost probably 8 dollars!

i may redo it, but probably not.

Fantastic! Thanks for sharing the template.

Added to: Micra modifications / customizations list

I did a DIY hatch/cargo cover for my Firefly a long time ago.

And if you want it to look more "factory finished", I grabbed $5 worth of automotive grey carpet from the trunk of a car at a junkyard and cut it to fit, then used contact cement to stick it in place.

One other thing: I found the fiberboard sagged a little over time, so I just glued a couple of strips of 1/2 inch thick wood trim along the full width on the bottom to stiffen it.

I think your going to be right about that. One detail I was thinking of was to put a rubber bumper right in the middle so its supported by the hatch when closed, but that might not work out. At the moment I put some foam copper pipe insulation around the back edge, it supports it but its a bit too "tight" lol

I dont want to reinforce it too much and make it weigh a tonne!! That will slow me down!

How about just adding some string holders like our stock ones. Does your Micra have the attachment points?
