Good Micra news: Versa has one of the lowest maintenance costs

A new U.S. study based on actual repair/maintenance costs suggests that the Micra is a good long-term bet.

In terms of cost of maintenance over 10 years, the Versa is Nissan's best model, and it even lands in the top 10 of all car models tracked.

Why is this good news for the Micra? Because it's built in the same factory on the same platform using the same drivetrain and many other parts as the Versa sedan & Versa Note.

At YourMechanic, we have a massive dataset of the make and model of the cars we have serviced and the type of maintenance done. We decided to use our data to understand which cars break down the most and have the highest maintenance costs.

The page is worth a visit, because they rank makes & models by a bunch of criteria:

    • How do car costs change with age
    • Which models cost the most to maintain
    • Which models have the lowest maintenance cost
    • Unusually common car issues
    • Brands most likely not to start
    • Models most likely not to start

Its a good read, but there are some other factors to be considered.

Yes the Versa is built alongside the Micra, but so is the sentra which didnt do as well (but still on the top 20.) So for me thats a double win. That also makes me happy because the trio do share a lot of components.

Allthough I was surprised that the prius scored as high as it did. But when I think of it. Ive never seen a prius broken down either. Oo

I guess that's another reason the Prius is so popular in taxi fleets.

Another thing you notice in the top 10 is most of the cars are entry level or inexpensive subcompacts. That helps their ranking because the price of parts is going to be lower when things do need to be replaced/repaired.
