I've seen at least 3 members here mention they owned (or still own) an Echo/Yaris.

Someone else just joined your ranks.

I no longer subject my 1998 Firefly to winter salt & rust. So I've been buying a winter beater each year for a while now. And I just scored a fantastic deal on next year's beater:

    • 2004
    • 5-speed
    • 220k kms
    • absolutely base model, no options (like "Micra S" base)
    • even has manual steering -- I was a bit surprised by that

The fact it has a timing chain instead of a belt is a bonus. That's a first for me.

I got a great deal on it: $1000! Mechanically, it's totally fine. Rust is the problem -- it's getting a little rusty around the edges (door sills, bubbling on the hood). The worst is the rear rocker panels, with a good sized hole ahead of each rear tire. Before the snow flies, I'll have to do some of my trademark crappy welding to fix it up.

Driving it makes me think of the Micra. Very similar power:weight ratio.

You traded yours in for the Micra, right? How many km on it?

It was low km, about 120 iirc. I maybe had it in my name for about 4 months.

That front bumper is huge! Compared to the yaris here. Did Canada get the mental nutter turbo version?

I imagine both the front & rear bumpers are beefier on our version - more stringent "no damage" collision standards here at the time. ... Which we've recently dropped.

No turbo car here though, just the 1.5L petrol.

I'm sure you guys had a range of engines as usual? 1.0 triple? Diesel? More?

Not too sure I was only ever interested in the turbo one I think there was a 1.3 and a 1.5 not sure on the diesel either but I would imagine so.

I used to have an '05 Echo as well. My brother borrowed it and was rear ended so I decided to get my current Micra.

I was going to upgrade my Echo with braided brake lines, cross drilled front rotors. I even bought new lower control arms and tie rods. I was even planning on a suspension upgrade. I was just collecting all the parts I needed so I could do it all in one shot.

Well now I have the parts just sitting in a trunk doing me no good. I think I even have some RS badges (front and rear) and a carbon fibre antenna somewhere.

My parts are for sale if anyone is interested. They are all brand new and sitting in their original packaging. Otherwise I guess I'll post something on an Echo forum I used to go to and see if they're interested.
