That looks pretty excellent to me MetroMPG. Looks like it really pays off to know how to weld.

Thanks, LilGeckos. I think a real welder would laugh if they looked at my work... I'm a hack! But I can usually make the metal stick together well enough to get the job done.

The Echo's ancestor. And is that your future Paseo (fancy Tercel) in the background?

Yeah, I also had a Paseo. It was a 1997 5 speed. I really liked that car and wish I still had it.

with my current micra, i love the car so much that i hope to make it my personal 'echo'....meaning, drive it until it no longer works.

im hoping to get two decades' use out of it, which should be no issue, with the tiny bit of driving i do nowadays...

You should be able to do it, especially with the lack of rust on the wet coast.

I'm always amazed at the number of old cars on the road when I visit your neck of the woods. It's like time travel to a car enthusiast.

Rust kills most cars here, not mechanical wear. That's why I've tried to avoid driving the Firefly in the winter. It's only seen a handful of Ontario winters in its 18 years. I've been using winter "beaters", like this year's Echo.

Out with the Echo, in with the...

Well that's a personal record for me: the shortest time owning a car. It wasn't planned, but I sold the Echo this weekend!

I was going to drive it until spring, but something unexpected came up...

Impulse buy! I couldn't resist -- 1990 Miata 5-speed. It's a piece of junk, but the price reflected that. It will be a fun piece of junk.

I didn't have any extra room in the garage, so the Echo had to go to a new home. I had JUST started to drive it too - it was licensed for 3 days!

The Echo: owned since April, but only licensed and on the road for a couple of days last week.

I told several people the Echo was one of the nicest driving small cars I've had. 12 years old and not a squeak or rattle. It really felt like a quality-built car. And ironically I dumped it to make room for a junky Miata!
