Honestly, I believe that tire makers have shifted more towards a summer tire formulation for their so-called all season tires in order to generate demand for winter tires - and possibly to improve fuel economy for automakers and tire life for bragging rights. I too can remember when all seasons were all you needed in southern Ontario, but today's all-seasons aren't the same at all. I put snows on steelies and keep the all-seasons on alloys, and just do the changeover myself...at least keeping my alloys from corroding and extending the life of my tires might make it worthwhile.
