In our culture obsessed with absurd excess, the Nissan Micra is my counterculture car of choice.

While I like it, I think it's important to consider that this may change the crash absorption characteristics of the car. What saves you from a fox might really hurt you if you were to hit a tree or a telephone pole, especially in a car in this class.

Considering our cars dont really have a bumper to begin with, I dont think this is going to provide much of a difference in the event that you hit a tree or pole. Whats probably more important to consider is what its mounted to and what it is made out of. If thats made out of light aluminum, its probably going to be more then enough to deflect small game and sacrifice itself. Against a non moving pole or tree, it might as well be a peice of paper with the force of the car behind it.

Now say that was made of solid tool grade steel, or stainless, or aluminum and filled with sand like on tractors.. Thats a whole different ball game.

Again if its mounted with say grade 3 bolts and it shears off when hit, I would think it might cause more damage when it passes under the car if it breaks off.. . If a grade 8 or ten bolt was used then it might lift and bend whatever it's attached to in a way that contradicts the design of the crumple zones.

Overall I think its not a big deal.

Figured I would include this.. Sometimes bush guards might not protect you from everything.

But I guess there is hope.
