V8 owner, looking at little commuter cars

    http://ecomodder.com/forum/showthrea...tml#post414885

    hello everyone,

long time V8 owner (currently have 3)
just picked up my new commuter (first hybrid) a 2001 Prius
it's got 205K miles, newly rebuilt battery
runs and drives well (feels like an economy car)
    she's currently getting 40-42mpg

I am moving this weekend, picking up a 60 mile each way commute (30,000 miles per year)
just trying to save a little money and wear and tear on my nicer vehicles.

    current cars
    2005 GTO, getting 18 avg / 24 highway
    2001 Tahoe, getting 14 avg / 17 highway
and a 94 Turbo Diesel F-350 guessing about 18 mpg highway

Welcome to the site. While the Micra isn't a crazy mpg machine, it should provide a nice mix of fun and economy.

we'll see how this Prius treats me for the next couple years

I beg to differ on the micra not a gas sipper. I guess its all in context. I have a Jeep JK unlimited, and a Chev suburban. Both average around 15mpg or 15L/100kms. The micra is averaging 5.1-5.5 mixed driving or 46mpg as far as my calculations work out. I think that's amazing for a non battery powered car. I can see Kraut is not hippie/yuppie hugger type. But they all buy the prius thinking they are saving the planet but where they make and mine for the batteries around Sudbury Ontario, NASA uses as a test bed because the earth is so damaged and polluted from mining for the stuff they use. I just laugh and find that ironic. I am putting a sticker on my jeep saying buy a prius , my jeep needs the gas! ha ha.
