I always wondered what the block heater used for electricity.

    Wimpy!

I've got an aftermarket coolant heater that's 850 W. Less time you have to plug it in to get useful heat.

Actually, after reading another post in another thread, I'm thinking about putting the car on a timer to shave off some heating dollars. Thing is that my work start times are anywhere from 3:30am to 8:00am in the morning. I'm wondering how long to fire it up for; 1 or 2 hours? Then again just trying to get an outdoor timer here that has decent program-ability may be a problem.

Those inline heaters are cool though. My Dad had one in an old car in the 80s that would keep the snow melted off the entire hood of the car and the front windshield no matter what the temperature.

    Ha - wow!

About an hour and a half is where my 300w heater levelled off in my Firefly.

When I lived in Northern Ontario the apartment complex supplied and paid for power at every parking spot. I had a Ford truck with an inline heater and a heater with a fan inside the cab. There was never any snow on the truck, HOWEVER the roof started to rust. I think it was the salt laden slush melting and becoming more aggressive in its corrosion abilities. I have also heard that heated garages are bad for car bodies

Heated garages are definitely bad for rust if you keep bringing in a car with fresh salty slush encrusted on it. It doesn't rust when it's frozen!

Here are a few piks of the heads-up display that I mentioned on post #15 here: http://micra-forum.com/showthread.ph...e-entry)/page2

Night shots make it look brighter. I never put the reflective pad on the glass since it would be too high up and would interfere with visibility. Since it is not there it looks "doubled up." Real world is not that bad.

And one while driving (not recommended ):

The camera flash was on and the battery was almost dead so I didn't try to disable it. Flash shows up every little bit of dust.

It works well enough but you have to change/adjust settings for accuracy. I needed to adjust both speed and RPM. I use it for traveling higher than 75kph and is GPS set to exactly 100kph to make up for the speedometer being wrong. I would try something else that never needs to be calibrated though.

Does anyone here know the operating temperature for the Micra when warmed up? Right now it says 85C.

    85 C = 185 F is normal operating temp. I've had some cars that run a little hotter at around 89 C = 192 F.

The cooling fan on my Firefly comes on at 96 C = 204 F.

    PS: cool HUD.

Thank you for that info MetroMPG. At least I don't have to adjust that one.

Ok. Got my front rotors and brake pads replaced on my car at the dealership. Inspection too with the 64000km service. All good now. Pictures of new rotors/pads:

Too bad that they won't stay that shiny.
