Horn replacement

The horn, the sweet music that keeps urban life flowing smoothly. And you know you hate the Micra horn. It's bad enough you handed in your man card and are now driving something something only one step above a golf cart. But hey, at least it's got a real gas engine under the hood, and nobody says you can't have a real horn under there too.

Well, it only takes five minutes to bolt on some real respect. This manly horn is about $15 bucks at any crap tire.

Pathetic punk in jail pants, shuffling along and slowing down the grannies in the cross walk?
Desperate dude (yeah, it's got a Hemi) that can't afford to keep his truck at a proper speed?
Homie that hasn't clued into a green light (or 2014), 'cause he's so into blasting the rust off his Honda with NWA?
Ugly kid on the DQ patio with the oversize ice cream?

Blast 'em all I say! :D

"Freeway blaster" -- no doubt about what the aim is. Did you replace the original horn, or add this one to it? I like the 2-note horn myself.

Personally, I like the Micra's horn. So many horns are so obnoxious and loud and sound like they're saying, "HEY ASSHOLE!" while the Micra's horn is more along the lines of, "Excuse me, sir/madam." Perfect for letting the inattentive person ahead of me know that the light has turned green, or letting someone know they forgot to check for me in their blind spot when they're changing lanes, all without causing undue stress or road rage. For some of us, being a man isn't enough; we want to be a gentleman. :)

I just replaced the original horn. The new horn is actually not quite as loud as advertised...the sound is typical of what is found on most American brand cars.

I can totally understand the need to get a manly horn, I had an 07 Yaris with a roadrunner meep meep horn .. it was totally embarrassing.
I stole the manly horn from my wifes 90 Mustang, left her P.O.'d.

Indeed, however, I'm afraid I might have messed with configuration of the panic alarm/alarm. That in the best case. In the worst, I'd have to make some other connection to the car alarm. I'm also having trouble with the remote lock/unlock door controls.

I'm taking the car for the free first 1k revision. I hope not to have any trouble related to the warranty though, just some reconfiguration and everybody happy. :rolleyes:

I guess you South American guys can get away with rocking the magenta...but personally, I would have given it a shot of flat black... just in case a buddy looked through the grill, only to look back at me over his shoulder with one raised eyebrow and a kinda squinty eyed expression. :)

Haha, yes, the roadrunner horn that origially came was a drag, here in Bogota is a survival tool specially in a small car like the K13. And yes you are right, painting them would help. The installation is pretty obvious though, the both horns couldn't fit in the same screw the original was in, so I had to place one in a more superficial hole, that making it VERY visible when you pop the hood, more than kneeling down to look through the grille. /:

I suppose the factory horn is tied to all that. Did you simply change the original horn connection to the new horn, or re-wire it somehow?

I added a relay, always the best choice, and more importantly, given in the box with the Hella horns. Attachment 906 the setup 2b* added the 20A fuse as well. Video on YouTube I also checked before the installation http://<a href="http://youtu.be/kLxU...LxUDMIZuAI</a>

I don't find any explanation of why it isn't working other than a configuration issue(maybe after cutting the power from the battery for the installation). I'm no expert, but I think it should be working...

Aha. Did you try re-connecting the factory horn to see if that fixes the problem?

Just tried that, no, It doesn't fix it. Now I strongly believe in my theory, hehe.

UPDATE!

I happened to have the brilliant idea to give the manual another go and...
-I found out I had to press the panic alarm button for 0.5 seconds, thing I never did (of course I hadn't used it more than once before the replacement). I tried the button and it worked! not without almost giving me a heart attack(wasn't very positive about it working so..)
-I also had a problem closing the driver's window automatically, (it just opened all the way, after the horn replacement)
I found the procedure which fixes the issue, it may be common when you cut the power from the battery(I guess that's why it's on the manual) I'll post it just in case.
1.Get the key on the ON position (on the switch)
2.Get the window down past the middle
3.Get it up without releasing the window switch
4. Hold the switch up 3 seconds after the window is closed
5. Release the switch and give the automatic closure a go!

-I mentioned some other issues locking and unlocking the car with the remote, it was all fine the next day. Seems it was just a cold (;

The panic button delay is a great idea, actually. Avoids accidental "pocket activations" and wrong-button-presses.

Ok, install complete. One horn was mounted to the factory horn mount, the other horn I mounted to the rad mount with a 3/8" bolt. Made up pigtails for the wiring that plugs into factory harness. Sounds fantastic! will get a video soon.

The factory horn is a bloody embarrassments. My sport bike has a louder / meaner sound. Changing it is very high on my to do list.

No, I superimposed the original horn sound. (it's actually Jenn's Versa horn, it's same as ours) One of the horns is mounted on the factory horn mount (on the right).

The tunnel is under the Peterborough Lift Lock :D

In the past I claimed the factory horn is an embarrasement. After today, I call it a safety hazard. Nearly got driven off the road on my way home today. Bloody horn is so quiet, the guy provably didnt even hear it.... I could barely hear it my self.
So I went straight to the auto part store, got me some Hella Supertones horns. Making it a priority to install them.

You won't be disappointed, I think Vapor's ears may still be ringing from mine :p

Back in the days I had a 89 civic, someone gave me a dual air horn from a Peterbuilt semi truck. 2 feet long horns. Wedge them inside the front bumper. I was running 180PSI on the air tank.
If I didnt value having a bit of trunk space Id do it again. Nothing like laying on the horn and having people looking around for a semi truck.

Yes, the hole needed to mount the horn was much easier to drill with the bumper off. If you have a 90 degree drill you may be okay with it all intact.
