Don't all automatics have "hill start assist??"
And no, the manual is as basic as you're going to get (which is a good thing, IMO)
Yes. There is a manual one.... The hand brake
I found on more expensive vehicles they had them, not for the Micra though.
The Mirage and the Spark have it.
But even so, people complain about it. Some people hate the fact that it feels like the brakes don't release when they want them to, so the car is fighting itself for a second when you're trying to go. (I suppose that's the whole point of it.)
There's no reason the Micra couldn't have it - it already has ABS and brake-activated stability control. The car can be programmed to put on the front brakes whenever it wants. Would just need an inclinometer. (Is that a word??)
my 2015 honda fit has it ,((its a manual) and after 35 years of not having it its literally impossible to get used to so i always use the handbrake. if you arent used to a manual, its probably useful.
None of the hills around here are really steep enough to really need a handbrake for hill holding.
As long as you're familiar with where the friction point is on the clutch pedal travel, you can hold the car at that point while you move the other foot from the brake to the gas.
If you don't know the car though, the hand brake or hill hold feature would be useful.
HSA is not for experienced drivers.
I think it's a terrific tool to get youngsters into a car they would otherwise never consider because of hills. If too few people know how to drive a manual the car companies will discontinue them. Very bad.
