Let me start by sharing that the 2015 champ Olivier Bédard will be running the number 1 albi micra instead of the number 96 as per usual. It seems that the 96 in micra cup belongs to the champs last year sponsor Sorel-Tracy Nissan as it will be on thier car with rookie driver Stefan Gauthier.

No Shannonville date... why did I think that was going to be on the 2016 list?

Let it be a testament to the toughness of the micra. Without only blowing up and looking at the videos, I can see the one white micra that rolled had the roof crushed in. Thats pretty wild. I know the other micra got it in the top of the tailgate.. But they might have to put a few more braces in the roll cage.

Oh my. So much for Micra Cup being "inexpensive"! NASCAR ain't got nothing on this.

Fortunately, I read a report that said "no serious injuries" - though one racer went to hospital with soreness in her back.

So the micra cup has started with a bang well a few bangs actually in a weekend that was cold wet and wild. I got to see a much different side of the Micra Cup series this weekend as I was helping the tech crew and parts trucks. The biggest bang for me was getting rip around Calabogie in a Nissan maxima platinum pace car being driven by the micra cup director Gilles. This guy has driven the pace car at the f1 in montreal for the last fifteen years. He can drive anything including helecopters and aircraft very well. I just grabbed the holy sh#t handle and giggled the whole way around. The other two big thing for me were the learning about this series from inside the tech trailer all of the crew are very experienced around racing for many years and are very good at running a tight ship but at the same time are great guys. The rain tire has put out a statement with the micra cup cars turning laps a full two seconds( which is huge in racing) a lap faster than the Porsche 944 cup cars and in some cases only one second slower than the slick is the statement... amazing! This tire is four pounds heavier than the slick but loses three pounds after one qualification and one race and is pretty much toast.

From now on all micra cup races will have a live feed to the micra cup Facebook page when possible.

The weather was very hot and so was the racing! It was a 11 hour drive yesterday but I was smiling all the way home. What a awesome fathers day!

Wow - I saw the print version of that story this AM and it was so edited down it made little sense.

The online version -- and video -- explains it better.

Two auto journalists in the Cup race from the same publication, 2 crashes. One is bad enough that the car doesn't finish the race!

Mosport's infamous 'Corner Two' bites Driving's own David Booth

The telemetry in the video clearly shows he COMPLETELY lifts off the throttle just before turning in, which predictably lightened up the rear of the car and initiated the first little bit of oversteer, then the snap oversteer in the other direction that spun him into the wall.

Maybe he's too proud to admit & learn from his mistakes!

Was thinking today how awesome it would be to get the Micra Forum Club cars on the track before a cup race sort of like what they did with the Porches.

Local Peterborough tv was at Mosport for the cup event there. Just found this video.

Slow (!) load time, but fun to watch. I bet they didn't have anyone else yelling "WOO HOO!" as much as that interviewer.

Hey Pete - who was driving for the hot lap you took?

They knew and I knew who's car I was jumping in....The reigning champions cars thats which one! I trust Stefan to and everything but I am a REAL fan of the champ and I think he has a very promising future like I'm talking Jacque Villenuve , Paul Tracy, Patrick Carpenter, Ron Fellows kind of future maybe even the next Gilles Villenuve who knows? But he has been a really accessible champion and a fine young gentleman and ambassador for the series and there was never any question who I was riding with! :)

Micra cup and GTacademy driver Nismo Nic Hammon will be driving the #74 Quest engineering car in today's Nascar infinity race at Watkins Glen at 2:00 p.m. on NBC.

Just watched micra cup qualifying on fanschoice.tv and it was awesome like better than being there!
Also just watched ptbo s interview on motoring tv!
can't wait to see the micra cup races this afternoon and tomorrow. The coverage on fanschoice.tv is awesome with veiws all around the circuit.

Yes but unfortunately I was not one! Roxane rolled in with it and drove it back to Toronto. Gilles Villeneuve drove it as pace car as always because he is "the driver" and Gilles will tell you that he won both micra cup races last weekend because both races ended under caution and therefore he was driving the first car over the finish line so Gilles wins. Speaking of finnish line here is how the nascar truck race ended if you haven't seen it.

So we have a new champion in micra cup. Xavier Coupal is the new champ and again we have a very skilled racer and awesome young man as "Our Champion" The micra cup has a really good habit of exposing skilled racers to the masses and I believe that we will see both Xavier and Olivier Bédard in the near future racing for the big expensive race teams. The only question is who will be the next champ for the third and final year of this awesome series?
