There are sizable cutouts in the piston to allow for clearance. Below are the pistons in question. The raised center section bumps the compression from 9.4:1 to 9.8:1.

The button for A/C works independent of the vent selector, which works independent of the temperature selector, so I see no reason why you couldn't get A/C from those vents. Why you'd want cold feet...
